            Dear Parent & Students,

Overpark Elementary will once again partner with Baptist Memorial Hospital and Mississippi Project Package for its 6th annual community-based program, Shoeboxes for Soldiers. They are asking our school to provide much-needed supplies for our soldiers overseas. This year marks the 5th year Overpark Elementary has taken part in this event. Last year we donated over 870 shoeboxes to soldiers which earned us 1st out of all the schools that participated. We would like to finish first again this year by donating over 800 boxes. Our donation this year of your care package will take place between October 1, 2014 and October 30, 2014. Schools with the most shoeboxes will receive $500, $750 and/or $1000 for their PE program. Just fill a shoebox up or a gallon zip lock freezer bag with the supplies and send it to school with your child. If you do not have a shoe box or gallon zip lock freezer bag, please ask your teacher to tell coach JJ Downs and he will send one home with your child.   Make sure to label your boxes with your child’s name, teacher's name, grade and name of your school so that your child can earn credit in order to win prizes!

Attention Parents & Students,

October is “Breast Cancer Awareness” month.  The Desoto County School District and Overpark Elementary have a special day set aside this month (Tuesday October 21st) as our Awareness WEAR PINK Day, in support of finding a cure for this type of cancer.  We would like for everyone to wear pink to school on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Thank you in advance for your support.

Here is the song that the kids wrote that we sang and marched to around the school on walk to school day Oct 8, 2014.
Walk it OES!

(tune of the Military Cadence)
I don’t know what you’ve been told (echo)
But walking is the way to go (echo)
We move our feet, first left then right (echo)
Walkin’ with the school in sight (echo)

Bring it on down
Walkin’, Walkin’

OES is doin fine! (echo)
Walkin’ in a nice straight line (echo)
You can do it, you’re the best! (echo)
Rock it, Walk it, OES! (echo)
Bring it on down
Walkin’, Walkin’
Lyrics written by Maddie Maxwell, Renee Floyd, Tay Jenkins, Connor Sweeney, Jenna Hooper, Shelbie Coleman (all from Mrs. Long's 4th grade class)
