Language Arts

Reading Standards:

The student can...

  • Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
  • Recognize and name all upper and lowercase letters in the alphabet.
  • Recognize common types of text (storybook, poems, etc..)
  • Identify the front cover, back cover, and title page of a book.
  • Actively engage in group activities with purpose and understanding.

Writing and Language Standards:

The student can...

  • Draw, dictate, and write when composing a narrative text.
  • Add details to their writing with drawings or other visuals.
  • Use grade appropriate grammar when writing and speaking.

Speaking and Listening:

The student can...

  • Participate in conversations with different partners; ask and answer questions to gain understanding. 
  • Confirm understanding from text or oral information by asking and answering questions; share thinking about familiar events.
  • Add drawings or models to share additional details.


The student can...

  • Form all letters from memory.
  • Name each letter
  • Names the sound of each letter.

Sight Words:

a, and, can, I, is, me, see, the, we, you


  • Count to 10 by ones.
  •  Identify numbers 0-5.
  • Write numbers 0-5 from memory.
  • Use one to one correspondence to orally count objects 0-5.
  • Write numbers to represent sets of objects 0-5.
  • Sort objects by: color, shape, size, number of objects.
  • Names shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, and diamond
  • Identify and short shapes as 2D and 3D
