A little about Ms. Derrick

Education:

I graduated from Collierville High School in 1995.

I graduated from the University of Memphis with a B.A. in English in 1998 and a Master's of Arts in Teaching degree in 2002.

I am currently enrolled in a doctoral program pursing a degree in cognition and instruction.

Experience:

I began my teaching career with Mrs. Love at Chickasaw Elementary.  I taught third grade there for five years.  Next, I worked as a TST Intervention Coach, and then I taught fifth grade for five years at Overpark. I have also been a private tutor for about 15 years.  In 2019, I begin my third year as librarian at Overpark.

Bio:

Dear New Friends and Students,

Welcome to our library at Overpark Elementary School.  I am so excited to begin a new year, and so honored to have you as part of my life.  I have one son named Steven who is a student at Center Hill Middle.  I have lived in Olive Branch for about seventeen years.

I enjoy hometown sports like Memphis Tiger basketball and Memphis Redbirds baseball, and I love watching all of my Mustang former students play at the middle school and high school.  I also love traveling, reading, and watching movies.  My favorite hobby is to read a book, and then watch the movie that goes with it to compare and contrast the two.

I want to equip my students to Believe anything is possible, Achieve the goals they set for themselves, and be Leaders among their friends and communities.

You will find that I have an open-communication policy. I appreciate comments, suggestions, and feedback at all times.  I know that by working together parents and teachers can truly give children the best experience possible.  I expect this to be a safe, productive, and really fun year.

  Sincerely,

Racheal Derrick
